Rob's background
After 19 years at BYU-Idaho, Rob Eaton is currently a visiting teaching professor at BYU. At BYU-Idaho, he was a professor of religious education and a learning and teaching fellow at BYU-Idaho. He spent eight years as an associate academic vice president, helping create what has become BYU Pathway Worldwide—an online program now serving over 57,000 students in over 160 countries. He also oversaw efforts to improve learning and teaching among the campus-based faculty and helped develop a semester-long course for new faculty members, which he continues to team teach.
Rob has an especially winding career path, which was a bit embarrassing to him until he read David Epstein’s Range. Now he just feels well-rounded. Rob earned a bachelor’s in international relations from BYU and a law degree from Stanford Law School, where he graduated with honors and was named the outstanding oralist in the law school’s appellate court competition. Before ditching the legal and corporate world for teaching, Rob practiced law for seven years in Seattle and worked as a vice president of a consortium of Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies in the Northwest for another three years. He’s written a number of books on religious themes as well as a biography, but Improving Learning and Mental Health in the College Classroom is his first work in the scholarship of learning and teaching. Having taught and spoken extensively at BYU-Idaho as an academic leader, with the publication of Improving Learning and Teaching in the College Classroom, Rob is now transitioning to speaking to educators anywhere about how they can simultaneously increase learning and decrease unnecessary stress in their students. |
